Player Safety First

Responsible Gambling at sgpools

Gambling is a form of adult entertainment — not a source of income, not a way to recover losses, and never something that should place financial or emotional strain on you or your family. This page sets out how sgpools supports safe play and where Malaysian players can find help if they need it.

For players aged 21 and above only
Our Commitment

Why Responsible Gambling Matters at sgpools

At sgpools, responsible gambling is not a compliance box to tick — it is a genuine obligation that shapes every part of how we operate. The vast majority of adult players who enjoy sports betting, live casino games or slots do so without any problem. They set a budget, stick to it and treat gambling as entertainment the same way they would a night out in Bangsar or a weekend EPL viewing session.

A small but important minority of players, however, can develop patterns of gambling behaviour that become harmful. They may chase losses, gamble with money set aside for household expenses, or find it increasingly difficult to stop when they intend to. For those players, early recognition and access to the right tools can make a significant difference.

sgpools is committed to providing every adult Malaysian player with the controls, information and support resources needed to keep gambling a safe and enjoyable activity. Whether you are following Liga Super Malaysia results on a Saturday afternoon or playing live baccarat late at night in Petaling Jaya, the safeguards described on this page are always available to you.

Core Principles

The Six Pillars of Safe Play at sgpools

These principles guide every responsible gambling decision we make on this platform.

Strict 21+ Access Only

All sgpools accounts are restricted to adults aged 21 and above. Age verification is conducted at registration and may be re-triggered at any point. Accounts of underage users are closed immediately and balances are forfeited. There are no exceptions.

Deposit Limits

You can set daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits on your account at any time. Once a limit is in place, it takes effect immediately for reductions. Increases to an existing limit require a mandatory cooling-off period before coming into effect.

Session Time Controls

Session reminders and time limits allow you to set a maximum continuous play duration. When your session limit is reached, the platform prompts you to take a break. Reality checks can be set at 30-minute or 60-minute intervals during active play.

Self-Exclusion

Self-exclusion is a formal request to have your account locked for a defined period — from 30 days to permanent closure. Once activated, self-exclusion cannot be reversed before the minimum cooling-off period has expired. We take this tool seriously and enforce it without exception.

Loss Limits and Spend Tracking

Beyond deposit limits, players can also set loss limits that cap how much can be lost in a defined period. Your full transaction history and net wagering position are always accessible in your account dashboard so you can maintain a clear picture of spending.

No Credit Extended

sgpools does not offer credit facilities to players. You can only deposit and play with funds that belong to you. We do not encourage players to borrow money to fund gambling activity under any circumstances.

Self-Exclusion

How Self-Exclusion Works at sgpools

Self-exclusion is one of the most effective tools available to a player who recognises that their gambling has moved beyond healthy entertainment. At sgpools, the process is straightforward, private and enforceable.

Request Exclusion

Navigate to the Responsible Gambling section within your account settings and select "Self-Exclude". Choose a period: 30 days, 90 days, 6 months, 1 year or permanent.

Immediate Account Lock

Your account is locked immediately upon confirmation. You will be logged out and will not be able to log back in or create a new account during the exclusion period.

Balance Handling

Any remaining balance in your account at the time of self-exclusion — verified as clear of active bonus wagering requirements — will be returned to your registered Malaysian payment method within 5 to 7 business days.

Cooling-Off Period

Self-exclusion cannot be reversed before the minimum period you selected has elapsed. After expiry, a 48-hour deliberation window is required before reactivation. No self-exclusion of less than 30 days is available.

Need help right now? If you are in a moment of crisis and want to exclude immediately, contact our support team by email at [email protected] stating "SELF-EXCLUSION REQUEST" in the subject line. Your account will be suspended within one business hour of the request being received and verified.

Know Your Habits

A Simple Self-Assessment for Malaysian Players

Honest answers to the questions below can help you assess whether your gambling habits remain within a healthy range. If you answer "yes" to two or more of these, it is worth speaking to someone about your relationship with gambling.

  • Have you ever gambled more money than you originally intended to on a single session?

  • Have you tried to win back money you have lost — sometimes called "chasing losses"?

  • Have you gambled with money set aside for bills, rent, groceries or other essential household expenses?

  • Have you felt irritable, anxious or restless when you tried to reduce or stop gambling?

  • Have you hidden your gambling activity or the amount of money involved from family members or close friends?

  • Has gambling caused you to miss work, family commitments or other important obligations?

  • Have you borrowed money from family, friends or financial institutions to fund gambling, or to pay debts created by gambling losses?

  • Do you find yourself thinking about gambling — planning the next session, recalling wins, or calculating potential returns — when you are not gambling?

Two or more "yes" answers suggest a pattern worth addressing. You do not need to be in crisis to seek support — early conversations with a counsellor are far more effective than waiting for the situation to escalate. Please see the support resources section below.

Recognise the Difference

Healthy Play vs. Problem Gambling

Gambling can be a perfectly enjoyable leisure activity when approached with the right mindset. The distinction between healthy play and problem gambling often comes down to control, financial management and how gambling fits into the wider context of your daily life.

⚠️ Warning Signs

  • Gambling to escape problems or relieve stress
  • Feeling you must win back what you have lost
  • Spending more than you can afford to lose
  • Lying to family about gambling activity
  • Neglecting work, family or personal care
  • Borrowing or selling possessions to fund gambling
  • Feeling guilt, shame or despair after gambling
  • Inability to set and stick to a budget

✅ Healthy Habits

  • Gambling with a fixed, discretionary entertainment budget
  • Stopping when your budget for the session is used
  • Treating losses as the cost of entertainment, not a debt
  • Gambling does not affect work, relationships or daily life
  • Taking regular breaks and enjoying other activities
  • Never gambling with borrowed money
  • Using platform tools like deposit limits proactively
  • Being open with family about gambling activity
Financial Controls

Using Deposit Limits and Loss Caps Effectively

One of the most practical things any player can do is set a deposit limit before they start — not when they are already in the middle of a session. Limits set in advance are far more effective than limits set reactively, because they remove the temptation to override the decision in the moment.

sgpools deposit limits can be configured in MYR on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. For example, a player who sets a monthly deposit limit of RM500 cannot deposit any further funds once that threshold is reached within the calendar month, regardless of whether they request an increase in the same session.

Daily Limits

Cap the total amount you can deposit within any rolling 24-hour period. Suitable for players who prefer frequent, small-stakes sessions.

Weekly Limits

A weekly cap resets on the same day each week. Useful for players who budget week-to-week alongside other household expenses in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru or elsewhere.

Monthly Limits

The broadest limit type, resetting on the first of each month. Ideal for players who think about entertainment budgets on a monthly basis alongside their MYR household finances.

Loss Limits

Beyond capping deposits, you can also set a loss limit that stops all wagering activity once a defined MYR loss threshold is reached within the period you select.

Increasing a limit always takes longer to take effect than reducing one. A reduction in any limit type takes effect immediately. An increase requires a minimum 24-hour reflection period and, for increases above a defined threshold, a 7-day waiting period. This design is deliberate — it protects players from impulsive decisions made in the heat of a session.

Family and Community

Protecting Others from Gambling Harm

Gambling harm rarely affects only the individual player. Spouses, children, parents and close friends are often significantly impacted by problem gambling in their households. sgpools supports not just the player but the wider circle of people who may be affected.

If you are a family member or friend concerned about someone's gambling behaviour, there are several practical steps you can take:

  • Open a conversation without blame — express concern using specific observations rather than accusations.
  • Do not cover losses or lend money to a person you believe may have a gambling problem, as this enables continued harmful behaviour.
  • Seek support for yourself — being close to someone with a gambling problem is genuinely stressful. Talian Kasih 15999 supports families as well as individuals.
  • Encourage professional help — organisations like GamCare provide resources specifically designed for family members navigating this situation.
  • Contact sgpools if you have serious concerns about a specific account holder — while we cannot share account details, we can review the account and apply protective measures where a credible safeguarding concern is raised.

Underage Access: If you believe a minor under the age of 21 is using the sgpools platform, please contact us immediately at [email protected]. We will investigate and close any confirmed underage account. sgpools has zero tolerance for underage gambling.
